League of Conservation Voters – “Tackle”
The late Senator Paul Wellstone faced a tough re-election campaign in 2002. The League of Conservation Voters chose this race for an independent expenditure campaign because Wellstone had a long history of fighting for environmental causes in the U.S. Senate. “Tackle” was designed to connect Wellstone’s work on behalf of the environment with swing voters’ passion for fishing. Polling showed that suburban voters who held fishing licenses cared deeply about water quality in Minnesota’s lakes and streams. Because it was die cut, this piece would have stood out from the pile of mail in voters’ mail boxes. Because tragedy struck and Senator Wellstone’s plane went down, this piece never went in the mail. |
